Nach Rokytnik Evn Collection

Mumok Vienna  •  Austria [AT]

With this presentation of the EVN Collection, MUMOK begins its Year of Collecting. In so doing, the museum seeks to highlight its own initiative in establishing a current and lasting debate on the present and future of the public and private collecting of contemporary art.

Founded ten years ago, the EVN Collection focuses on contemporary art and some of its future perspectives, reflecting current trends that transcend categorisation by subject, media, or place. The collection’s paintings, photographs, objects, installations, and videos address issues of identity in a world dominated by the media (e.g. Marlene Dumas, Mona Hatoum, Elke Krystufek, Elisabeth Peyton, Muntean/Rosenblum), respectively the relationship between civilisation and nature in the context of individual responsibility for the ‘whole’ (e.g. Fischli/Weiss, Fabrice Hybert, Andreas Slominski, Lois Weinberger). Another central motif is provided by reformulations based on the traditional mediums of painting and sculpture (e.g. Angela Bulloch, Walter Obholzer, Gerwald Rockenschaub, Heimo Zobernig, Bernard Frize).
